It’s the boys’ first birthday today (rayyyyyy!) so I went to the shops to get them some treats. While I was there I saw the latest issue of our mag, Digital Photo, looking resplendent on the shelves. I think the issue’s an exciting departure for us and I’m excited to see how it does. Me and boys are currently gorging ourselves on animal flesh. If we can still move after we’ve finished the fine Italian sliced meats I’ll take them out for a sunset walk. It’s awesome to see how much they’ve grown and developed over the last year. They are amazing little chaps. Here’s hoping for many more happy years like this one. Happy birthday boys!

A photo from Kiyomachi Dori in Kyoto last night. The most moving part of the walk was being told by a small boy to look up into the trees, through the petals to a white bird that was sitting in a branch. Once I noticed one I realised there were dozens of these white birds, hidden and perfectly camouflaged among the white-pink sakura petals in full bloom. My jaw dropped when I realised how many of the little animals I had utterly failed to notice. The boy saw the stunned look on my face and smiled as if his work was done. He’d opened another adult’s eyes to the world around him he was failing to see. I thanked him and he moved off with parents. It’s amazing what you can learn from kids.
