Halloween illustration. Modern Halloween is based on the ancient festival of Samhain, when the door to the Otherworld opens and a place is set at the table for the returning souls of the dead. People would disguise themselves from stowaway fairies who also snuck through the portal. This is an illustration of a family member returning for dinner while ghouls sneak through the door to the afterlife outside. I photograph these paper sketches and make a digital version in Photoshop. I then transfer the outlines to Illustrator, convert them to vectors and start the coloring and shading process. In the end I’m left with a 100% vector version of the illustration that can be expanded to any size without any loss of quality or sold as stock illustrations. via Tumblr http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ofriceandzen/~3/T0FCEFtRKDM/34741262594

National Geographic magazine licensed one of my images for a piece they were publishing about Kyoto. To my pleasant surprise, they are one of the few remaining venues that still treat photographers quite well. Our work has been devalued of late, despite the fact that the digital world relies on a constant flow of beautiful images, but the Nat Geo were also kind enough to send me a couple of complimentary copies of the magazine. Stay classy, National Geographic. via Tumblr http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ofriceandzen/~3/rI880q6zK2A/34566911401
