There’s a useful setting in Manga Studio that lets you scale the brush size as you zoom in and out of the image. This will save you a lot of time when working on a Surface Pro 2, as you’ll often find yourself zooming out to get an idea of the whole, before zooming in again to draw details. On a 10-inch tablet, you’ve got to get in very close if you want quality linework. With aforementioned setting enabled, you can make broad strokes zoomed out, then zoom in with a pinch to effectively shrink your brush to make detailed marks. I have a feeling Manga Studio is going to be full of similar tricks that you learn as time goes on. If you’ve tried illustrating on a Surface Pro 2 and have any tips for making things easier, feel free to get in touch and let me know. For now, I’ll leave you with a little preview of Ellie’s linework.

Surface Pro 2 for Artists I can’t honestly say Microsoft’s Surface Pro 2 is a good tablet - Windows 8 is gobsmackingly awful, pen calibration changes from app to app, plugging in an external monitor ruins pen calibration, etc - however, it does allow me to draw on the sofa at times I would otherwise have wasted. As that’s exactly the reason I bought it, I can only conclude that it’s doing its job very well. If you want to draw using Manga Studio, the Surface Pro 2 is a decent sketch pad. If you want anything more than that, you won’t be playing to its strengths.

austinkleon: INSIDE trailer Since the release of LIMBO in 2010, Playdead has been working very hard on their next game, INSIDE. Damn, I loved LIMBO. I’m currently doing a game commentary on Limbo on my Youtube channel, so I’m very excited to see that Playdead’s follow-up has been revealed at E3 2014. Can’t wait to see more of this. The Division also looks interesting but time will tell on that one.
